ADA has been working to support the development of a climate finance data ecosystem. This refers to strengthening the collection and transfer of climate data for the generation of relevant climate information for use at the county and national level to enhance informed decision making for climate action.

Towards this goal, ADA working, with Makueni and Wajir Counties as case studies, undertook a pilot research intended to contribute to the setting up of climate finance data ecosystem for informed decision making, specifically, to enhance; data driven decision making on climate investments; coordination and effectiveness of climate investments; transparency of climate finance needed and received through different sources and to link inputs and impacts of climate change activities at county and community levels.

The project focused on bolstering the development of a climate finance data ecosystem informed by local realities; supporting county governments to generate and use data relevant to climate finance in the development and implementation of policies and strategies; and to work with local communities to enhance their use of climate data in resourcing resilience to climate change.

The two counties were supported to review the climate data and information that they were generating, and assess its utilization in development planning and implementation of policies and strategies, especially in supporting households to address climate change risks and build resilience. Both counties had existing climate policies, strategies, Climate Information Services (CIS) plans, and functional climate adaptation investments benefiting communities.

The findings of the study underscored the need for counties to support the operationalization of county information services, ensuring a predictable and defined approach to awareness creation and the use of climate information, as current efforts had limited coverage.
